Additive Manufacturing (AM) has established itself in prototype and small-series production (3D metal printing in powder bed), but often reaches its limits regarding surface finish and dimensional accuracy of fits. The AM-LOCK system from pL LEHMANN closes the gap between the 3D printer and the machining centre.

Until now, transferring a printed part to the milling machine has been a time-consuming process, often requiring the workpiece to be laboriously aligned. AM-LOCK solves this problem with a consistent zero-point interface. The component is printed on a segmented pallet that already features the AM-LOCK centring geometry. After printing, the pallet and component can be transferred directly into the pL LEHMANN chuck on the machining centre. As the zero point is maintained throughout all process steps, functional surfaces, bores and threads can be re-machined with high precision without the need for re-calibration. This reduces lead times for complex hybrid components by up to 50%.
