pL LEHMANN favours the PGD (Preloaded Gear Drive) gearbox for many applications, as it offers significant energy-saving benefits compared to direct-drive systems. A direct drive requires a constant power supply to maintain its position, thereby generating heat that often has to be dissipated via a complex, energy-intensive water-cooling system. The PGD gearbox, on the other hand, utilises a high mechanical gear ratio with 100% self-locking, allowing for the use of significantly smaller servo motors that consume less power. Furthermore, the gearbox requires no cooling, which further reduces the complexity and energy requirements of the overall system.
